The touchscreen multimedia gets an upgrade to an 8-inch screen that can incorporate optional GPS, SiriusXM, and HD Radio.  Upholstery is visually revamped, as well, with textured patterns, and the rear second- and third-row seats gain reclining functionality. Efficiency is also touched upon in this trim level with the inclusion of Stop and Start, which temporarily stops engine activity after five seconds of braking, thereby saving on fuel when at red lights or in traffic.

Toyota Highlander XLE

The mid-level trim begins introducing luxury features and pushes the technological envelope to heighten the appeal and experience of the journey.  Above, a power moonroof with sunshade is outfitted to the roof of the Highlander, framed by chrome roof rails for added utility. The multimedia display now incorporates GPS and HD Radio standard, still with optional SiriusXM.  New features here include the predictive traffic providing smart traffic-aversion navigation, as well as real time doppler weather map overlay to always stay up to date of the conditions coming or differences at your destination.  Further technology built into this eight-inch touchscreen includes the Entune App Suite, providing connectivity to iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, Pandora, Yelp, and local fuel prices. A 4.2-inch driver information display is built between the speedometer and tachometer, providing additional journey stats such as fuel economy, outside temperature, cruising range, and AWD torque distribution.  Seats gain leather-trim, front seats now heated with twelve-way power adjustment with thigh and lumbar support, and the second- and third-rows gain window sunshades. Additional features to this trim include Smart Key front door and liftgate unlocking, remote keyless entry, push button start, and auto-dimming rearview mirror. Enhancing the entertainment for your passengers, there's an available 120V AC power outlet for the second row to plug in their gadgets and play on the go.  Optional, too, is a Blu-ray DVD nine-inch entertainment system with RCA jacks, remote, and two wireless headsets. All this starts at $39,120 MSRP.

Stepping up the luxury game is the $40,290 SE model.  This rides upon 19-inch multispoke machined alloy wheels with black finish, which complements the black headlamp, roof rack, and grille detailing specific to this trim.  Inside, leather is added to the door trim and armrest. Blue LED ambient lighting is added for a slick night experience. Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic alerts are added with special light up warnings upon the side mirrors along with auditory warnings when approaching an obstacle.

The Limited is the highest trim type, sold for a starting MSRP of $42,280.  All standards of the previous models are included and enhanced upon to create the most luxurious drive you'll be able to acquire in the Highlander.  Chrome outfits the exterior detailing, with added rear bumper garnish and accenting puddle lights built into the mirrors. The overhead moonroof has an available upgrade into a full length dual-paned panoramic moonroof, bringing greater natural light beauty to the interior space.  Here, the sound system is enhanced with twelve premium JBL speakers including subwoofer and amplifier. Perforated leather-trim upholstery provides ventilation to the front-row seats as well as heating for all season long comfort no matter the weather outside. For the second row, you gain a choice of either the standard 60/40 bench setup or upgrading to two captain's chairs with side table build, although this cuts down on passenger count to only seven.  Safety and maneuverability is further enhanced with rear parking assist sensors, alerting you of approaching obstacles while in reverse.
