2017 Toyota Highlander at Thompson Toyota for Edgewood, MD

The 2017 Toyota Highlander is a fantastic, family-friendly three row SUV. The Highlander finds the perfect balance in terms of comfort and size. With a high-quality cabin bustling with comfort features, technology, and space, the Highlander appeals to adults, children, and everything in between. There are tons of changes in this year's model. There's a whole new trim, the SE, with sporty styling and sharp-handling suspension. A previous Safety Sense technology suite is now standard on every trim. A more powerful V6 engine is now available, offering better fuel efficiency and added power. Lastly, the styling has been revised to make the grille larger and more pronounced and there are updated LED taillights.

Under the Highlander's Hood

There are two available engines for the 2017 Toyota Highlander. The first is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder. This engine is tried and true, and does a great job of moving the Highlander by providing 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque to the wheels. The second engine, new this year, is a 3.5-liter V6, capable of 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque. While the four-cylinder engine is more than enough, the V6 makes the Highlander a fun and surprisingly wild ride. Despite being so compatible with regular pavement, the Highlander has undeniable off-road capabilities. 8 inches of ground clearance alongside hill descent control and hill hold will have you driving to places you never thought were possible. Best of all, the 2017 Toyota Highlander handles like a breeze.

The Limited Platinum is completed by adding a panoramic moonroof, Dark-Chromtec alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, a bird's eye view camera for a 360-degree view around your Highlander, heated second row captain's chairs, a heated steering wheel, and Safety Connect.

On top of the comfort features, the 2017 Toyota Highlander is full of safety and security features. This year, Safety Sense is standard on every Highlander; this is a package including lane departure, automatic high beams, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, and Dynammic Radar Cruise Control. On top of that, the traditional STAR Safety System features are standard as well, which include ABS, Smart Stop Technology, Brake Assist, stability and traction control, and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. All these features contribute to a five-star overall NHTSA rating, and will hopefully provide the 2017 Toyota Highlander with another year as a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.
