Under the Avalon's Hood

There is only one engine that comes with the Avalon. It is a 3.5-liter, DOHC V6 with Dual VVT-i that makes 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 248 pound-feet of torque at 4,700 rpm. It has a six-speed automatic transmission. The steering wheel has paddle shifters and the driver has different drive modes of Eco, Normal, and Sport that helps the driver select what kind of drive they want in certain conditions. When the driver picks Sport mode it makes the throttle respond faster and enhances the electric power steering feel. Transmission shift points are also raised. When it is downshifted the throttle blips like a sport car would. When the car is in Eco mode it prioritizes fuel efficiency by balancing air conditioning function, fuel efficiency, and driving performance. The fuel economy is at a combined 24 mpg.

Design of Toyota Avalon

There are five trim levels for the Avalon: XLE, XLE Plus, XLE Premium, Touring and Limited. The XLE has 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats, keyless ignition and entry, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a 7-inch touchscreen with Toyota's Entune interface with voice controls, and an eight-speaker audio system. The XLE Plus has all the same features plus a sunroof and auto-dimming rearview mirror. The XLE Premium has features like driver-seat memory settings, Qi wireless smartphone charging, integrated navigation, a nine-speaker audio system, smartphone app integration, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Touring has 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, a sport-tuned suspension and unique interior trim. The Limited trim level has the same equipment from the Touring plus xenon headlights, auto-dimming side mirrors, automatic wipers, ambient cabin lighting, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated rear seats, a rear power sunshade, Safety Connect and an 11-speaker JBL premium sound system.

Conclusions

There are 10 airbags and the Toyota Star Safety System with vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brake system, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop brake-override technology. If you add on the blind spot monitoring, it uses radar to detect vehicles in the adjacent lanes where drivers may not be able to see them. The same tech is used for the rear cross traffic alert that detects low-speed cross traffic behind the vehicle while it is in reverse. If an object is detected the blind spot monitor flashes in the correct mirror and an icon pops up on the display screen. All these features will make your ride in the new 2017 Toyota Avalon safe and fun. Come look at the Avalon at Thompson Toyota in Edgewood, MD, today!
