Used 2016 Toyota Highlander at Thompson Toyota for Edgewood, MD

The Toyota Highlander was partially responsible for creating the SUV segment and it remains extremely popular after all of these years. Massive improvements have happened over years of development but the vehicle remain just as functional and reliable as the original lineups. For the 2016 model there has been a hybrid model thrown into the mix as well as a bolder and sharper exterior. The Highlander can fit up to eight people and the V-6 option gets you a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. The Highlander gets great safety reviews and truly can be an awesome family car.

Under the Highlander's Hood

There are 3 options for the 2016 Highlander powertrain. There is a 2.7-liter inline 4 cylinder producing 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Fuel efficiency is good getting 20 miles per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. Next choice is a 3.5-liter V-6 outputting 270 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque. There is all-wheel drive available for this one which gets 18 miles per gallon city and 24 miles per gallon highway and with front-wheel drive it gives you 19 miles per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon highway. True to Toyota's nature, there is a Highlander Hybrid available, but only on the top-tier Limited trims. The hybrid pairs the same V6 engine with two electric motors to produce a total of 280 horsepower. It's more expensive, but the payoff is an EPA-estimated 28 mpg on the highway.

Design of Toyota Highlander

A drastically improved interior helps the Highlander be even more useful to its occupants by offering easy to use controls and features literally at your fingertips.  The center console also is optimized for maximum storage and can hold many things useful to daily commutes or family travel.  The exterior has a bold grille and a rugged look and takes the idea of a family "wagon" to unimaginable heights.  It is definitely a fresh face in a crowd with a great deal more character than its competitors in segment.  The base level Highlander LE has a day/night rear view mirror, tilting telescoping steering wheel, three auxiliary power outlets, a 6.1-inch touch display, Bluetooth, voice recognition and a ton more.  If you are alright with losing the third row space you can upgrade to second row captain's chairs, there is also upgrades to a moon roof, DVD entertainment center and zoned climate control.
